Foundation

Welcome to Case Worker Foundation training. Foundation training provides the bedrock of knowledge, awareness, skill development and values for child welfare staff. It is heavily focused on skill development, with multiple opportunities for practice integrated into the skill-focused Foundation training sessions.

Foundation training is required per Wisconsin Administrative Rule, Chapter DCF 43, Training for Child Protective Services Caseworkers and Supervisors for all workers whose primary position responsibilities include Access, Initial Assessment and Ongoing Child Protective Services. Upon hire, caseworkers are required to complete 15 days of Foundation training within their first two years of employment. There is a required set of Foundation courses that total 9 or 11 days of the new worker’s Foundation training, depending upon job function, and additional menu option courses that caseworkers select to fulfill the remainder of their 15 days of Foundation training.

Over the past several years, new courses have been added to Foundation training and others have been retired. Please click on the “Foundation Courses” tile to the right to view the Foundation courses that you should complete.
